The Malt House

March 17, 2008

malt house It all started here.It was always with my dad at the end of a long day and we were all starved. The Malt House has been open for 50 years and has perfected the art of a cheeseburger. The grum of the place, the waitresses who care just enough, shakes, malts, and a juke box all make the burger what it is.For my birthday dinners I only wanted to go one place. My graduation dinner was celebrated here. Whenever I come home from college, the Malt House is a priority visit.I am the doublecheeseblogger and I’m in love with cheeseburgers. It’s my mission to inform you of great burgers and where to get them.

With all that said, this delectable baby may not look like much but tastes like right! The Jumbo Cheese Burger hits the spot with two slices of cheese (perfectly melted on the double patty every time), lettuce, tomato, mayo, and mustard (I opt to hold the mustard). The Jumbo Cheeseburger lives within the less is more mantra, no tricks here, no fancy seasoning; a modest but more than adequate burger. Comes with fries, a drink, and chips and salsa for a very comfortable $5.94, the burger alone $2.79! The establishment has become a staple in the community, “I’m in my mid 30’s and grew up going to Malt House. My family grew up in the West Side and the Malt House has always been a place to meet,” says byrdgonzales . They still carry on the car-hop tradition and on some nights you can get an authentic mariachi band to sing for you.

When I go to the Malt House it reminds me of the good times. Here’s the address: 115 S Zarzamora St, San Antonio, TX 78207-3761 Phone: (210) 433-8441
